Quick Answer

What makes a playground right for ages 5–12?

Equipment for ages 5–12 offers more challenge and more variety: taller decks, climbing walls and nets, overhead ladders, spinners and longer slides. It is common at elementary schools, parks, HOA communities and churches.

Older children move faster and spread out across the play area, so the layout needs clear use zones and circulation between events. Taller equipment has higher fall heights, and the surfacing beneath it is planned to match.

Who is 5–12 playground equipment designed for?

School-age children, roughly ages 5 to 12. It offers more challenge than 2–5 equipment, with taller decks, climbers and overhead events.

Yes, usually in separate areas, so younger children are not mixed in with older children’s play. See ages 2–5 equipment.

It depends on the structure’s footprint plus the use zone around it. Send us your space dimensions and we’ll suggest options that fit.

Poured-in-place rubber is common, with the cushion depth set to the fall heights of the taller equipment. Artificial grass with a cushion pad is another option. See PIP playgrounds.

Slide exits, swing bays and the busiest routes. Wear inlays and regular inspections help in those spots.
